Her Story

Voiceless, Vulnerable &
Not Forgotten

In 2024, the life of a young girl named Iqra came under the guardianship of Aaghosh Trust. She was only 17 years old but had the mental capacity of a 3–4 year old child.

Innocent, unaware and completely dependent on others, she became a tragic example of how vulnerable differently-abled orphan girls are in our society. Iqra was found in an abandoned state, carrying deep scars of abuse and exploitation. To make matters even more heartbreaking, she was already seven months pregnant when she was discovered.

Alone, voiceless and incapable of understanding what had happened to her, Iqra represented the silent suffering of countless differently-abled girls in Pakistan who remain at constant risk of extreme abuse. The honourable court entrusted her custody to Aaghosh Trust. Caring for her was not only a challenge but also a test of compassion, patience and faith.

With dedicated round-the-clock support, Iqra was guided through the final stages of pregnancy. By the grace of Almighty Allah, she safely delivered a baby girl. However, due to her mental condition, Iqra could not comprehend the meaning of motherhood — she could not recognise her child as her own, nor provide the affection every baby deserves.

Understanding her innocence, Madam Shagufta Saba personally adopted her baby as her daughter, ensuring the child is raised in a safe, loving and dignified environment.
