TRUE STORY

Nighat Jahan

A Life of Struggle and a Place to Call Home

Nighat Jahan lived in a small crowded area of Paposh. The narrow lanes of the neighborhood echoed with the sounds of daily life and the quiet stories of countless families struggling to survive.

She came from an ordinary family and had simple dreams. Like many women she wished for a peaceful home, a loving husband and a life surrounded by family and dignity. After marriage she was blessed with two beautiful daughters.

Her husband however felt disappointed because she did not give birth to a son. Slowly he began to distance himself from her and from his daughters. Eventually he abandoned the family and remarried, leaving Nighat alone to face life.

Heartbroken but determined to survive, Nighat returned to her parents. Her elderly parents supported her and her daughters with the little they had. Their love helped her continue through very difficult years.

Time passed and her daughters grew up and eventually got married. Nighat hoped that after so many struggles life would finally become peaceful.

A Difficult Chapter

Sadly her hope for peace did not last long. As time passed her daughters' in-laws began complaining about her staying with them. She felt unwanted and eventually had to leave their home.

With nowhere else to go she moved back to a tiny room in Paposh. The room had no gas, very little electricity and sometimes not even food. Her neighbors helped whenever they could, but most days she lived quietly and struggled alone.

Aaghosh Becomes Her Shelter

One day a kind neighbor informed Aaghosh about her situation. The Aaghosh team led by Madam Shagufta Saba visited her and brought her to the Aaghosh Old Home.

Today Nighat lives there with comfort and dignity. After years of loneliness and struggle she has finally found care, respect and a peaceful place to live under the roof of Aaghosh Old Home.
