Sania Mehar, a brave young woman from Shadra, Punjab, endured a childhood defined by betrayal, silence, and unimaginable violence after the death of her father. What followed was a chain of cruelty that would have broken many — but not Sania.
After her mother remarried, Sania’s stepfather developed evil intentions towards her. She was sexually abused while her mother, trapped in fear and helplessness, remained silent.
When Sania attempted to escape, her stepfather brutally attacked her, cutting her foot with an axe — leaving her permanently handicapped.
He later forced her into marriage with a deaf and mute man. Tragically, her father-in-law continued the abuse she had already suffered. Her husband remained silent.
In desperation, Sania courageously recorded a video of the abuse and sent it to the team of Sar-e-Aam, led by Igrar Ul Hassan.
She was rescued and moved to an NGO in Karachi. Sadly, trauma followed her there as well. After complaining once more, Sar-e-Aam admitted her to Aaghosh Home.
A Battle for Survival
When Sania arrived at Aaghosh Home, her injured leg was in critical condition — completely infected and filled with insects. The medical team immediately arranged six critical surgeries.
After five attempts to save her foot, doctors declared it beyond recovery. In the sixth surgery, her foot had to be amputated.
Today
Today, Sania walks with a walker. She lives peacefully under the loving care of Shagufta Saba, Founder and President of Aaghosh Trust, who nurtures her like a mother.
Her story is no longer one of victimhood — but of resilience, survival, and the power of compassion to rebuild a shattered life.
